Coalville's narrow victory was well earned over Stamford last Saturday by sheer hard work and a never say die attitude. The visitors started the tie off well cruising into a 12 nil lead in as many minutes with their forwards smashing holes in the home teams defence. Shane Upton-Burton and Matt Wesson crossing did the initial damage with Joe Rumming added a third try after half an hour. The hosts replied with a couple of unconverted tries either side of the captain's score. The half time score saw Coalville with a nine point lead to defend going up the slope in the second forty minutes, but they never let their lead slip as they dug deep to keep the Stamford crew out. Ten points from the boot of Billy Savory put the game just out of reach of the home team as they managed two tries and a conversion late on. Craig Warren made an impressive debut, being made man of the match. After the match, the former Shepshed player commented "great team spirit got us through today in very poor conditions and playing up the slope second half as well. Everything hurts!"
