Coalville falter in fight for promotion

Coalville missed the chance of Midlands 1 next season after defeat at Oundle last Saturday.
Coalville`s first half display was nothing short of a disaster as the hosts clocked up thirty points in as many minutes. The start showed nothing of what was to come though as both sides sized each other up. However, Oundle`s first venture into the visitors half though brought an unconverted try, quickly followed by two penalties from Steenberg the Oundle scrum half. Just 8 minutes later the impressive number 9 ran in unopposed to touch down and then converted to give the hosts an 18-0 lead.
Things got worse for the visitors as Jordan Gadsby left the field with concussion with Danny Freer taking over the scrum half`s roll. Luck played a big part in Oundle`s 3rd try as a knock on by New in the build up was missed and Jones crossed the whitewash.
By now the home crowd were right behind the hosts as they scored their 4th try when Jacob and Horne combined well to send Horne in, with Steenberg again adding the extra`s for 30-0.
Coalvilles best part of the half came in the last ten minutes with some sustained pressure pegging the hosts back in their 22 and after 4 line outs near the Oundle line, Danny Freer crossed over to give the away supporters something to cheer as the half time whistle went 30-5.
Coalville`s second half performance was certainly a huge improvement as they shut the hosts out completely with only a missed Steenberg penalty their only attempt to increase the lead. Coalville were denied 2 tries though as they were held up over the line as Oundle`s defence held out for long periods all be it with a few borderline tackles and some under handed tactics. Finally a yellow card was given with ten mins left and Coalville`s extra man told with Will Clare getting the visitors 2nd try and George Blackburn adding the conversion for a final score of 30-12.
