After an attritional first half, Coalville showed superior fitness and creativity to pull away in the second half to record a comfortable win

Coalville kept their unbeaten home record intact with a comprehensive victory over Matlock at the week-end, scoring five tries, the first from man of the match Eddie Rotstein who said after the game "happy to score but credit must go to the rest of the guys too with a great all round performance".The Memorial Ground side took time to settle with ten players out through injury or unavailability and found the visitors in no mood to surrender lightly. Twenty minutes in though and E.Rotstein crossed over down the blind side with Billy Savory adding the extras. Still the visitors held their line for long periods as Bill Grant was held up over the try line in his last game before surgery. The frustration was evident in the Coalville ranks with time after time the visitors thwarted attack after attack, one such play saw Joe Jardine`s run end with the ball being ripped out his grasp when over the try line. Following this Matlock went the length of the pitch to touch down under the posts to send the sides in even at the interval. The home side took the lead on forty six minutes with a Savory penalty then came the try of the match starting in Coalville`s twenty two the ball travelled through various pairs of hands before Will Quail crashed over to the delight of the home crowd of around 120. A lapse in concentration saw Matlock close to within one point after an hour. However, Coalville stepped up a gear or two with 15 minutes to go as George Blackburn pinned the visitors back in their own twenty two with some fine tactical kicking. From this pressure, Coalville crossed the whitewash three times through Michael Richmond, Joe Moretta and Shane Upton-Burton with Savory adding two conversions to end the game as Coalville moved to joint second in the table. Cup duty calls this Saturday away at Stamford 2pm kick-off.
