Ladies Team Back to Winning Ways

Coalville Ladies RFC were at home on Sunday against Coventry Welsh. As the league leaders, Coventry Welsh were looking to make it 3 from 3 whilst Coalville were looking to bounce back from their frustrating defeat to Longton. On a perfect day for rugby weather wise, handling errors hampered what was a free-running game. Coalville were first off the mark when after a quick tap penalty, Alysia 'Bob' Hunt peeled off of the back of a maul to score the first try.

Coventry Welsh replied almost instantly with a try of their own and finished the first half camped on Coalville’s line. The defence held strong though with some strong tackling and counter-rucking ensuring that the half finished 5-5.

In the second half Coalville’s fitness came through as they maintained possession with strong runs from both the forwards and the backs. Pressure told with club captain Jenny Renton going over for a try. With five minutes to go Chrissy Spalding scored and converted her own try scored after strong driving mauls from the forwards and quick hands from the backs. Well fitting with the game, a scrum won against the head meant Coalville could kick the ball out with a winning score of 17-5.

Katie Radley was awarded forward of the match after some strong support running and tackling whilst Sheree Wright was award back of the match with some good running and numerous line breaks. Coalville’s next match is again at home on the 16th October against Aston.
