Coalville Remain Unbeaten At Home

Coalville Ladies RFC were at home on Sunday against Aston Old Edwardians. On another sunny day, Coalville won the toss and kicked off putting Aston under pressure instantly. Coalville camped themselves in Aston’s 22, eventually winning a penalty that after 4 phases found its way to Captain Jenny Renton who went over to score. Only minutes later after some hard work up the pitch from Amy Dowsett and player of the match Dominique Nielsen good saw Tanya Coulson offload for Sheree Wright to score Coalville’s second try.

Coalville’s third try in 20 minutes was scored by Emily Piancastelli after some swift hands from the backline. With the score at 15-0, Aston then got the ball up-field and it took some strong defence from Coalville to prevent them from scoring before halftime.

Aston came back in the second half with some changes in their backline which caused problems for Coalville. After spending ten minutes in Coalville’s 22 they eventually broke through to score their only try of the game. Some poor discipline from Coalville almost lead to a second try from Aston but some brilliant work from Tanya Stirk and Kezza Page meant the ball was held up over the line. After a series of penalties, Beth Hillier saw yellow and Aston chose to kick for goal making it 15-10 with ten minutes to go.
Coalville finished the game positively, getting the ball back in opposition 22 after a series of penalties. Unfortunately, tired handling errors meant that the score finished 15-10. Despite making life hard for themselves, Coalville finished the weekend top of the table and now look forward to playing Winnington Park Ladies in two weeks’ time.
