Coalville win away from home against Coventry Welsh

Coalville Ladies were looking to repeat last week’s performance this Sunday against Coventry Welsh Ladies away from home. On a crisp and sunny day they did just that. From kick-off Coalville’s defence kept Coventry Welsh from making ground and with ball-in-hand, Coalville looked dangerous. This pressure was converted when Kate Whitfield went over for the first try of the match.
The first half continued with the same theme, the defence holding strong and the attack flowing. Captain Jenny Renton went over for a second try, which she then converted. This was quickly followed by another score; following some slick hands from the backs, Erin Snape sprinted down the right-hand touchline, breaking through tackles to score her first try of her first season in rugby. Coalville finished the half 17-0 up.
Despite the score, Coalville didn’t let up in the second half. Captain Renton lead from the front, breaking through the middle of the Welsh defence to go over for her second try of the match. Strong running from joint-forward of the match Alice Birr lead to a try for the other forward of the match, Beth Hillier following a slick offload from second-row replacement Debbie Thorpe. Hillier ran in under the posts to hand an easy conversion to Renton. Coalville still weren’t done and after a break down the left touchline from back-of-the-match Emily Piancastelli, Sheree Wright touched down for Coalville’s sixth and final try.
Keeping a clean sheet for the second week in a row meant the game finished 34-0. Coalville Ladies now look forwards to next week’s game away at Cannock.
