Coalville Ladies were at home on Sunday in a League match against Winnington Park. After losing to them away this was a must win game for the Coalville Ladies and they showed their true potential to do just that. A clear statemented of intent was made within the first five minutes when fullback Magali Ducreux went over for the first try of the match with Captain Jenny Renton making the conversion.
Coalville kept the pressure on, keeping Winnington in their half for long periods of time.
Even without the ball, Coalville were making ground with some hard tackling, Winnington’s centre was caught by forward of the match Tanya Stirk the ball turned over and scrum-half Sheree Wright went over for Coalville’s second try, with Renton making the conversion again. Even with a man-down through a sin-binning, a second try from Ducreux, converted by Renton meant that Coalville went into half team with a decent lead of 21-0.
The second half carried on with the same theme, Coalville’s pressure told with Carol Fitzpatrick erupting through the defence on the 22 to sprint in and score under the posts. Renton converted. Despite a second yellow card, Coalville refused to let up in defence preventing Winnington Park from crossing. Eventually, the play returned to the Coalville try line and after some strong runs in the forwards, Kim Hyslop crashed over for the 5th try of the match. The game finished 33-0 with an impressive performance from all the Coalville Ladies. Back of the match went to Erin Snape. Coalville travel to Coventry Welsh next week for their next league game of the season.
