Coalville Ladies knocked out in Third Round of Cup

Coalville Ladies travelled to Derby Vipers on Sunday to play their third-round cup game. The rugby on show was a stark contrast to the dark and miserable day in Derbyshire. Within a few minutes of the game kicking off, Derby went over for a try making it 5-0. It didn’t take long for Coalville to reply though, some hard work from the forwards following by slick hands from back-of-the-match Sheree Wright and Jenny Renton lead to Kim Hyslop crashing over for a try in her first game back from injury. Renton slotted the conversion as Coalville took the lead 7-5. The first half finished with Coalville keeping the pressure on Derby’s line, twice they were held up over the line and so the score remained 5-7 at half time.

In the second half the game was there for the taking with both sets of defences putting in some big hits. The only try of the second half came from a Coalville error as a loose ball led to Derby kicking through and pouncing on the loose ball to score a try which was then converted. Coalville kept their heads up and put an immense amount of pressure on the Derby line; big carries from forward-of-the-match Jazz ‘Westie’ Weston and the rest of the pack lead to a lot of penalties awarded to Coalville. A quick tap penalty lead to Katie ‘Radders’ Radley being held up just short of the line. With a solid scrum and despite having the majority of possession and territory, Coalville just couldn’t find the break through and convert that into points and the hard-fought match finished 12-7.

Coalville Ladies now look forward to returning to League action on the 4th December away against Dudley Kingswinford.
