Coalville travelled to Burbage for a very competitive preseason game.
Coalville started very fast with Ewan Laws breaking down the line for the ball to be recycled and Billy Savoury opened the contest.
Coalville then added further tries for Savoury, Laws and Stuart Tang. Coalville asserted further dominance in the 2nd of 3 thirds where forward power came to the fore. A driving lineout maul scored by Captain Sam Massarella was then followed by a penalty scrum try that debutant Tom Grainge will claim.
In the last third Johnny Neville scored a very well worked try from a period of sustained pressure.
Head coach Ben Spokes reflected upon the game “This was just what we needed from a first preseason game. This was a tough contest against a physical Burbage team. I was particularly pleased with our intent to play and some of the tempo and shape we played with. As with a preseason game it has highlighted where we are and where we need to improve as the season approaches. But very pleasing for a first hit out.”
