Coalville now unbeaten in 5

Coalville travelled to Matlock at the weekend looking to extend their unbeaten run to five victories. An unscheduled coach delay enroute didn't help matters only reaching the ground 25 minutes before kick-off. A quick intense warm up though from Head coach Ben Toft soon had everyone fired up.
The start was good for the visitors as they put some excellent moves together but minus the finishing touch. Full back Myles Griffin had two great runs but became the victim of the heavy pitch losing his footing at the final moment. Man of the match Sam Gadsby at hooker and the rest of the pack were making life difficult for the hosts winning the battle up front turning over some great ball. On twenty minutes the break through finally came after a ruck was formed some 25mtrs out with Ben Argyle the try scorer George Blackburn added the conversion for 7-0. Virtually straight from the restart though Matlock hit back with an unconverted try 7-5.
The Memorial Ground side soon had the hosts on the backfoot once again but a forward pass stopped a certain try much to the dismay for the away supporters.A Blackburn penalty on 35 mins nudged Coalville`s lead to 5pts which soon became 10pts when Jamie Parker smashed through the home defence to touch down on the stroke of half time.
Coalville`s strong defence kept out the home side with some big hits well into the second period as Matlock tried but failed to breach the try line. Matt Twigg, Coalville`s scrum half, burst through from a ruck to dot down after 65mins for 20-5. Matlock came more into the match in the last 10 mins keeping the visitors in their own 22 but after numerous attempts at pick and drive turnover ball found Ben Argyle whose clearance kick caught the hosts napping as George Blackburn led the run chase with some fine footballing skills but was brought down metres from the line with the ball ten metres away. A penalty try was awarded with Blackburn adding the extra points for the final score of 27-5.
Coalville take on league leaders Melbourne this Saturday 11th March at home ko 3pm.
