Coalville make it 10 on the bounce, taking 5 points away to a strong Southwell outfit

Coalville`s push for the play off place was greatly enhanced at the weekend with victory over third placed Southwell in a closely fought encounter, played in sweltering heat.
The Memorial Ground side out-scored their hosts by five tries to three with two from Liam Barnes and then one each to Joe Rumming,Sam Gadsby and George Blackburn.
Liam Nelson thought he had put the visitors ahead when gathering a clearance kick on the home 22 beating 4 would be tacklers to touch down under the posts, only to find the try to be awarded then disallowed for a toe in touch on the 22.
Southwell`s first venture into the visitors 22 on 17mins got them a penalty which was well wide of the mark.
A home scrum 15mtrs out was smashed back by the eager Coalville pack and following this, Rumming forced his way over for the try 5-0. Southwell hit back almost immediately with a try out wide to make it5-5, but 5 mins later Sam Gadsby put the visitors back in front after a break from Jamie Parker set up the score. Blackburn added the extra 2 pts. The hosts were awarded another penalty just before the break which was converted but Blackburn replied immediately for Coalville to take them in 15-8 to the good at half time.
On 50 mins Barnes won the foot race to touch down after a loose ball was kicked into the hosts in goal.
However, some sustained pressure resulted in two converted tries for the home side to put them in front for the first time of the game, leading 20-22 with 15 minutes left.
A break away by Nathan Harrison and Henry Rotstein then saw Barnes score his second try, to give the away side the narrowest of winning margins.
As the clock showed time up, Southwell were throwing caution to the wind to go for the win. This backfired though, and Blackburn pounced on a loose pass by the home winger to score in the corner for a 30-22 victory.
Credit goes to Coalville`s defence who when under pressure performed heroically.
Congratulations also goes to the
Coalville 2nds, who clinched the Leics Merit B league after victory over Belgrave.
Coalville are next in action home to Spalding 22nd April ko 3pm
