Defence leads Coalville to derby win

Coalville`s short trip to local rivals Loughborough on Saturday turned out to be a closer encounter than the league table suggested with the hosts in the bottom three and the visitors in the top five.
All started well for the Memorial ground side as they were encamped in the Loughborough 22 from the off, and after half a dozen phases Billy Grant crashed over for the try with Will Keeling landing the difficult conversion. A loose pass from midfield put a spanner in the works for the visitors as Loughborough`s winger intercepted to touch down unopposed under the posts to tie the scores. Loughborough took the initiative from this to exert the pressure setting up some strong attacking plays and eventually crossing the whitewash to lead 14-7. Back came Coalville just before the break as man of the match Joe Rumming got the visitors back on level terms with the try and Keeling with another difficult conversion for 14-14 at the interval. The second half kicked off with the home side having most of the possession and territory but couldn`t turn this into points due to some defiant defence from the visitors. The tackle count soared for Coalville with some big hits knocking back the Loughborough onslaught. Once again Coalville withstood all that the hosts could muster and with five minutes remaining on the clock Rumming broke from the back of a scrum some sixty meters out and set off on a mazy run breaking through six tacklers to touch down in the corner. Keeling was just wide with the conversion attempt to give Coalville a slender lead. Coalville then saw the game out to claim victory.
