Most complete performance of the season put Coalville on coat tails of league leaders

Coalville left it late to claim the points against second placed Matlock at the weekend to replace their opposition in the league. With twelve minutes left the Memorial ground side held a slender four point lead, only to put the 14 men of Matlock to bed in the last 10.
A crowd of around seventy braved the arctic conditions as the hosts were looking to improve on their recent good form. The visitors, also on a good run, had their sights on the same so a close game looked ominous. The match kicked off in bright sunshine with a slight breeze in favour of the hosts, with early forages resulting in some good phases of play but left with nothing to show for their efforts until on 24minutes, Billy Measures broke the deadlock with the try to go 5-0 up. End to end play ensued for the remainder of the half but with no additions to the scoreboard as both defences held firm.
The second half started as the first ended with both defences holding the upper hand. Coalville edged further in front on 52 and 58 mins with a Michael Richmond drop goal and a Will Keeling penalty respectively. Matlock came back at the hosts with a well worked converted try on 62 mins. The final 10mins certainly warmed up the spectators as five tries were scored, four by the hosts and one for the visitors. Man of the match Joe Rumming with two tries and one each for Joe Moretta and Liam Nelson, with the latters being a fine individual effort.
The bonus point win takes Coalville into second spot in the table. A spokesman for Coalville said after the game `we left it late today but against a strong Matlock outfit we kept on probing and in the end came out with a great win.’
Coalville are next in action on 16th December away at Newark ko 2.15pm.
