Coalville go down to a well drilled Bridgford

Coalville travelled to league leaders West Bridgford last Saturday looking to repeat the home victory earlier in the season. The Memorial ground side were the first to show with some good phases by the forwards pinning the hosts in their own twenty-two but a penalty awarded pegged Coalville back on their own line and from a wayward line out Bridgford took the lead with a try in the corner.

Back came Coalville with their pick and drive game working well with Sam Massarella,Chris Flanagan, Jake Moretta,Will Quail,Joel Wallace,Danny Freer,Stewart Tang and Joe Rumming all making headway against their larger opponents. All Coalville at this stage with Bridgford just hanging on.Some strong tackles by the hosts halted the visitors progress and allowed Bridgford to romp in under the posts for a converted try on thirty-five minutes.Full back Jordan Gadsby made inroads into enemy territory from a Bridgford clearance to set up a number of phases where Michael Richmond,Joe Moretta,Will Keeling,Liam Nelson and Shane Upton-Burton all had hands on in the move as Joe Rumming crashed over under the posts only for it to be held up. The home side duly cleared their lines as the interval came HT 12-0.The second half followed the pattern of the first with some driving runs from the visitors only being stopped by staunch Brodgford defence. Richmond then left the game with a dislocated thumb,Josh Breen making his first team debut came on.A mistake in the visitors defence let in Bridgford for a converted try on forty-eight minutes 19-0.Alex Collins came on for Jake Moretta as Matt Twigg raced away to dot down in the corner a minute later,Keeling was just wide with the conversion 19-5.Coalville lost Keeling with a head injury as Tom Logue came on for the final quarter. No scores from either side as both defences held firm.Coalville`s head coach Ben Toft said "We had opportunities to win the game, decisions did not go our way and the disallowed try changed the game. That said West Bridgford were well drilled well organized and deserved the win, they took their opportunities and kept ahead throughout, they have shown consistent performances throughout the season and deserve to be top of the table".Coalville are at home 3rd March against Ilkeston ko 3pm.
