Second placed Dronfield were the visitors to the Memorial ground last saturday in a re-arranged fixture with the hosts in pole position by virtue of a better points scoring difference.
The visitors were first on the score board with a penalty on four minutes after early pressure resulted in Coalville being caught offside in front of the posts.Coalville's defence were being put to the test by a well organised Dronfield fifteen who were getting quick ball to their backs pinning the home side in the twenty-two for long periods.Coalville grabbed a try out of nothing as Isaac Grewcock intercepted a Dronfield pass on half way and outpaced the away side to dot down under the posts,Will Keeling added the conversion.Dronfield regained the lead a few minutes later with a well worked try as the winger touched down and the conversion was good. The lead changed hands twice before the break as first Daniel Claypole put the home side in front against the run of play though only for Dronfield to finish the half off in style with a converted try to go in at the interval 17-12 up,much to the relief of Coalville head coach Ben Toft as it could have been much worse.
The team talk at the break certainly hit home as Coalville came out after the break with all guns blazing.Coalville's pack became the major force now controlling the breakdown and mauls and from a rolling maul Jack Tointon at scrum half seized the opening to dive over for the try Keeling added the extra's.Coalville with their tails up tore into the visitors with wave after wave of pick and drives and with some great offloads pushed the Dronfield team back towards their own line and on fifty minutes Captain Sam Massarella crossed the whitewash with the try.Man of the match Gaz Turner was causing havoc in the loose destroying Dronfield's earlier dominance and set up Coalville's fifth try for Zak Fellows with an outrageous offload to the winger on the blind side.Although that being the last score of the match Coalville were relentless in their quest for more tries playing some controlled rugby, but as the temperature dropped so did the ball on numerous occasions and as the fog came down too Coalville came out worthy winners to move five points clear at the top.Coalville 2 XV also won against Belgrave 2 XV to also be top of Leicestershire Merit B table.
