Squad strength allows Coalville to remain top

Local rivals Loughborough were the visitors to the Memorial ground at the weekend in a double header, the Midlands 2 East(North) league game and the 1st round of the Leicestershire County Cup.

Two changes for the home side Stewart Tang and Jordan Simpson in for Joel Wallace and Michael Richmond.

On a bitterly cold afternoon well supported by a crowd of some 150 Coalville had the advantage of a strong breeze behind them which they used to good effect keeping the visitors defence busy with a very high tackle count.A high tackle on Tang gave Will Keeling a shot at the posts from the penalty which he accepted to put the hosts in front after ten minutes. As the half progressed the penalty count reached double figures for the visitors but no yellow cards.Loughborough found it virtually impossible to get out of their own half, any kicks were held in the wind or went into touch.Coalville were in total command now as Jack Wickwar went over in the corner after the forwards set the platform with their tireless work in the loose and break downs Keeling added the extra's with the difficult kick on 22 minutes 10-0.A few more attempts from the hosts came to nothing as they squandered great possession with some wayward passes and various wrong options at the death. On 33minutes Keeling landed a penalty for 13-0 after an illegal tackle. The half time whistle came as great relief go the visitors.

Tom Richards started the second half in place of Will Quail as the hosts looked to cement the first half lead.Loughborough's tactics mirrored

Coalville's from the first half using the elements to get into the hosts twenty two but Coalville's defence held firm throughout, snuffing out all that the visitors could muster. On 50 minutes Ash Lynds took over from Chris Flanagan for the home side.Loughborough tried every conceivable way to get on the scoreboard but they couldn't break down the Coalville defence who have only conceded on average 8 points per game this season, and to rub salt in the wounds Joe Rumming crashed over with five minutes remaining to win18-0.The result keeps Coalville in top spot four points clear of 2nd and 3rd.

Coalville play Market Rasen on 21st Dec away with a 2.15 pm kick off.
