Complete away display

After a long trip, the game was frantic from the first minute. Coalville started nervously with passes not going to hand and balls being dropped. Within ten minutes, Town were behind on the scoreboard, after a catalogue of errors allowed the Grimsby centre to hack on and score, with the 10 converting.

This was the wake up call that Coalville needed. A strong scrum, reinforced by the returning Jon Neville back in his old hunting ground of the front row, created an excellent platform for the free-running backs to attack from. A strong set piece was followed by an excellent move sweeping from one side of the pitch to the other, with captain Michael Richmond coming up with Coalville’s first try.

From then on it was one way traffic, with a dominant pack allowing the backs to score all the points. Grimsby did not give up fighting though, and continuously attacked around the breakdown. However excellent fringe defence, which has been found out at certain points of the season, prevented any further score.

Man of the match Twigg produced a clinical display adding 5 tries to the scoreboard and appears to be back to full fitness after a long term layoff. Further scores came from James (2), Moretta, and captain Richmond nearly matching Twigg’s tally with 4 of his own. Maine kicking the rest.

The second half was completely dominated by Coalville, with the only blemish of the day being a yellow card to number 8 Chamberlain, midway through the second half. The final score of 7-76 underlined the dominance that Coalville had, producing one of the most complete away performances of the season.

This weekend’s fixture will have a major outcome on the season with Coalville hosting second place Spalding.
