Last home game for the girls

So, today was our last home game of the season.
We were expecting to play Tamworth at home but they dumped us for a better offer, so a big thank you to Nottingham Paviours for stepping in last minute and giving us a game.
We had a very depleted squad today, with 7 players unavailable. However, all 3 of our girls turned up for their last ever home game before they move on next season.
Instead of playing 2 x 20 minute games, today we decided to go for 1 x 40 minute game and see how it went.

For the first 5 minutes we defended really well before unfortunately we conceded a couple of tries.
Then out of the blue, one of our girls who never kicks the ball, started to. This immediately put Paviours under pressure. The great thing was that we chased, hassled and got to the kick first for us to fall on the all and score our first try!

After that, pressure tolled and we conceded a few more tries before we did the same tactic again and scored.

After 20 minutes, we blew the half time whistle and got everyone together to have a chat.
What was said at half time clearly worked as we scored a try almost straight away.
After this we got a little ponderous with the ball and the opposition passed the ball well and scored a few more tries.
Some of our players were getting frustrated as we were bunching up and not passing out. However, with 5 minutes to go, we changed our scrum half to being first receiver of the ball and this had an immediate impact, increasing our penetration. It’s a shame we didnt do this earlier in hindsight.
One of our other girls went on an amazing jinking run, only to get nearly decapitated at the line with a high tackle. Fortunately, she was ok.
The resulting play from the penalty didn’t result in a try.

At the end, the girls were in tears at the realisation that will be the last time they play with some of their teammates. We have a brilliant team and they have grown up together.

Still 2 games to go though with our tour. We will make sure they go out on a high
