So, we are coming towards the end of the season now and with that comes the festival season.
Due to the fantastic performance of our team earlier in the season we were invited to the afternoon session of the Melton Mowbray RFC festival for the first time. To ensure that all players and teams enjoy the festival experience, teams tend to be split into 2 groups with the stronger teams taking part in the afternoon.
So, off we set and arrived at a bright but windy and deceptively cold afternoon. A squad of 13 gave us a good number of players and allowed us to get everyone on the pitch and have decent game time.
We had 5 games planned.
Game 1 vs Oakham
Game 2 vs South Leicester
Game 3 vs Melton B
Game 4 vs Leicester Forest East
Game 5 vs Ashby
All 5 games were massively challenging. Defensively we were very strong and difficult to break down, however, the step up in class gave us a clear guide on what to work on. The intensity of the opposition was something that we have only been exposed to a few times this season.
Kicking at the right moments, spreading the play and utilising the whole of the pitch by passing the ball accurately & waiting for the gaps are key focus points.
We are really proud of all of our players. They never gave up despite being on the wrong side of some random refereeing decisions. Everyone got stuck in and scored some wonderful tries.
