Coalville win at DK

A chilly West Midlands day saw Coalville Ladies take on the top of the table DK Vixens. Coalville entered the game keen to put all the hard work put into training into the game and right the wrongs of the previous two League game losses.

Coalville started the game off and instantly camped themselves in the DK half and eventually were awarded a penalty which Captain Jenny Renton slotted through the posts to make it 3-0. From this, Coalville continued with strong work from the pack and slick hands from the backs keeping the pressure on the DK Vixens. After 20 minutes this pressure told when number 8 Carol Padraig broke through the middle of a ruck and sprinted 30 metres to score the first try which was then converted by Renton to make the score 10-0. Coalville didn’t let up the pressure and only minutes later centre Emily Piancastelli scored after a large overlap was created by strong forward running. The conversion was missed and DK came back hard at the Coalville line just before half-time; the defence remained strong though with some big tackles preventing any score and the half ended 15-0.

In the second half continued with much of the same; Coalville withstood wave of attacks with strong defence and then built play up through the phases to put pressure back on the DK line and after a series of penalities, inside centre Kim Hyslop crashed over for a try to make the score 20-0. Coalville didn’t let up with the pressure with flanker Beth Hillier breaking along the right touchline and passing brilliantly to Magali Ducreux to sprint in to score Coalville’s fourth try.

The game finished 25-0, Coalville’s defence standing strong and their attack hitting the right notes. There were top performances across the field with the players of the match awarded to Alice Birr and Debbie Thorpe.
