Coalville Colts made their first appearance at home this season, making the home advantage count against a depleted Oadby Side.
After a close game at Oval Park at the end of last season, the Coalville forwards ensured that this wouldn’t be such a tight affair. From the kick off, George Cooper put in a huge tackle to set the tone for the game. This impact allowed the Colts to gain possession, resulting in Euan Pollard crashing over for the first of his 3 trys.
Led by captain Ben Edwards, Coalville used their physical power well throughout the rest of the first half, with Pollard crossing again, back row partner Will Lawson going over from 40m, and VC Zeke Martin-Rae adding a brace before half time. Max Howard and Denley Blake added two conversions a piece to make the half time score 31-3.
In the second half, it was the backs turn to make some serious impacts on the game. New look centre partnership Olly Nicholson and Rory Mitchell made serious impacts in the midfield, with full back Blake adding several aggressive carries from full back. George Burke finished off two flowing moves to go over twice in the right corner, whilst Blake profited from excellent kick chase pressure from fly half, Howard, who also added 3 more conversions. in the second half .
Not to be outdone, Pollard then crashed over in the last play of the game to earn his hat trick.
Coalville start there league campaign at home against a Market Harborough side who will no doubt prove a much sterner test.
